A health coach will collaborate with you to develop a concrete plan of action for overcoming the psychological barriers to your motivation, so that you can reach any health-related goal, whether it is improved fitness, weight loss, smoking cessation, or better management of a medical condition.

Let’s face it, most of us can’t bring ourselves to do what is best for our body at all times. You’re either overcome by desire for some unhealthy indulgence, or else you find yourself unable to keep yourself motivated to continue on with healthy behaviors.

For example, you may have tried the services of a personal trainer at your local gym. And even though there are some excellent and highly motivating personal trainers out there, those people generally do not have the psychological training to understand the real barriers that keep you from making it into the gym regularly and following the dietary guidelines that they prescribe. Motivation is hard. We get that. Sometimes it’s not enough to have someone excitedly tell you what you need to do.

Or you may be trying to quit smoking, or to lose weight, and simply getting nowhere with it. Sometimes it can feel as though there were another person inside of you seizing control of your body just long enough to put in another cigarette, doughnut, or margarita. You try telling yourself not to, but for some reason it’s not enough.

A health coach can help you to figure out what’s standing in your way, and then to overcome it. No matter what your goals for improving your health, we will work with you to develop a concrete plan of action that takes into account all the pitfalls that you’ve experienced in the past. Because we are trained psychological professionals, we will be able to help you figure out what’s working for you and what’s working against you.
